ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
CYCLIST KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, December 2(1. Hugh MeLeod, a married man, fiftyfive years of age, met with a shocking accident on Thursday evening. About 0 o'clock, with a companion, he was riding a bicycle on the railway track between Ruru and Moana. 'The Otira express for- Greymouth caught MeLeod at a curve with such force that his skull was fractured and his right leg broken. He died on the train before its arrival at Greymouth. The deceased was a sawmill hand employed by Messrs Nyberg Bros., of Kuril. He had no family. The inquest has been adjourned until Wednesday.
A SOLDIER'S SUICIDE. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Wellington, December 27. At about 11.30 on Christmas night, Frederick Meßeynolds, a soldier at May Morn camp, committed suicide. It appears that two of his tent mates, Thomas Lingard and Thomas James Taylor, heard a gurgling sound from the trooper's bed at an hour approaching midnight, and they thereupon proceeded to investigate. They found that the deceased had cut his throat with the blade of a safety razor. They reported the matter, and the body of the trooper was removed to the Trentham camp. The man is .stated to have been perfectly sane in his actions for some time before the deed was committed, but a short time before he had entered the tent a little shaky, which they had attributed to drink.
