Mr. J. E. Shewry, the champion Taranaki axeman, has enlisted for service at the front. Mr. Andrew Snell, who has been associated with the Patea Post Office staff for some years, has been appointed telegraphist to the 12th Reinforcements.
The marriage took place yesterday at St. Mary's Church of Mr. Noel Harding, who lately returned from the Dardanelles, to Miss Gwen Hill, both of New Plymouth. The bride was given away by. Mr. W. C. Weston, and the ceremony partook of a quiet nature. It is probable that the consecration of Monsignor Brodie a s Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch will take place towards the end of next month, when Monsignor Ceretti, apostolic delegate to Australasia, is expected to be in Christchurch.
At St. Mary's Church yesterday morning Mr. W. Armstrong, manager at Inglewood for Messrs Weston and Weston, wa s married to Miss Joyce Hempton, of New Plymouth. The bridesmaids were Misses Rita Hempton and Vera Armstrong, and Mr. Ernest Armstrong was best man. Mr. W. L. Newman gave the bride away. Mr. Joseph Blythe Graham, a wellknown citizen of Wellington, died at his home in Aro street on Friday afternoon and was buried at Karori Cemetery on Sunday. The late Mr. Graham was U years old, and was born in Scotland. He came out to New Zealand at the age of 25, and he eventually settled in Wellington, and became a member of the firm oi Uajjr* Bitto and Graham, ■
