STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Stratford, Yesterday. Christmas Eve turned out a wet day till three o'clock, and then the sun came out and the evening was fine. Business people were busy all day, and all report an improvement on last year's business. The Town Band gave a sacred concert in the hospital grounds on Sunday afternoon,

To-day (Boxing Day) it rained all night and up till i) a.m., when the sun came out, it and it has been a beautiful day. The wet morning prevented many from travelling, and the railway bookings were decidedly down. The bookings were as follows:—New Plymouth 270, Eltham 77, Ngaere 35. Bowlers had a good day on the green, which the night's" rain had improved. The hot sun soon dried it, and it was playing very keen. To-morrow (Tuesday), at 10 a.m., progressive games will be played in aid of the .War Fund. Results of to-day's play:—Woodliead, Bickerton, While,' Cottier (s.j 17 v. J. S. McDonald. Leversedge. Edgecombe. Sangster (s) 31; Martin, Wilson, Curtis, McMillan (s) 30 v. Ward, Boon, Wright. King (s) 20; Foley, Chamberlain. Black (s) 15 v. Webb, Elder, North (s) 29. Tiie liotelkeepers in Stratford have increased the price of bottled liquors in some cases 25 per cent. The rise took effect from Christmas Eve.
