A SMACK OF MARRYAT
Young Midshipman C. L. Drewry, who \r«B awarded the V.C. at the Dardanelles, only reached his majority this month. This lirave young fellow assisted Commander Unwin at the work of securing the lighters under heavy rifle Are. He was wounded in the head, but continued his work and twice snbse<luontly attempted to swim from lighter to lighter with a line. Whilst sailing round Cape Horn in the Indian Empire, a large London sailing ship, a storm arose, and the vessel was wrecked upon a desert island. Fortunately, the crew, including young Drewry, managed to get ashore. For fourteen days thoy sustained an existence on edible roots and shell fish, which they found upon the Island, and they managed to hold out until they were rescued by a gunboat, a Chilian man-of-war. The whola ship's crew were saved. After thia Drewry went back to England, and in 1912 he joined the P. and 0. service as an officer. Since that time he has been travelling all over the world, and was, in fact, at Port Said when he was called ,up on 3rd August to »«rvc his country,
