BOMB-THROWING. ~ GENERAL HAIG'S REPORT. Received Dec. 22, 11.45 p.m. London, Dec. 22. General Haig reports that the enemy made determined efforts to occupy craters opposite Armentieres, but after stubborn bombing contests the attacks were repulsed. The enemy lost heavily. DEPRESSION IN GERMANY. ' OPTIMISTIC ffRENOH OPINION. Times and Sydney Sun Services. London, Dec. 21. M. Marcel Hutin, in the Echo de Paris, says there is sure confirmatory evidence from Germany that the people are not manifesting the triumphant demeanour which was expected in view of the uninterrupted victories in tho Balkans and the inauguration of the express service between Hamburg and Constantinople. It is a fact that depression exists in Germany. He adds: "We have only to maintain the sacred union, and within half a'year we shall win."
