SENSATIONAL LIBEL.
THE GLOBE AND MRS. ASQUITH. A SORRY PAPER. By Cable.—Press Association —Copyright London, Dee. 21. The court was crowded for the Asquith libel case. Mrs. Asquith with Mr. Anthony Asquith, her daughter, and Lady Diana Manners were present. Mr. Duke saiil that the Weekly London Mail last May accused Mrs. Asquith of playing tennis with German officers at Dorrington Hall. Though the paper apologised and paid damages the slanders continued, until the Globe on Novemliei 29 published a letter accusing a Cabinet Minister's wife of sending a large and choice selection of comestibles purchased in Piccadilly to Hun prisoners. Another letter said that if Mr. Asquith handed his salary to his wife as pin money the public had no right to complain if she used the money as asserted. Defendants expressed unqualified regret and submitted to an injunction pending the libel action. Mr. Petersen remarked that the plobe's statements were absolutely without foundation.
