THE HOLIDAY SEASON.

MANY PEOPLE TRAVELLING*

VISITORS TO NEW PLYMOUTH.

Holiday-seekers have commenced to move, and large numbers of travellers are already arriving at and leaving New Plymouth. Auckland always appeals to Taranaki people as an ideal place for spending the Christmas holidays, while many people in the northern city come to Taranaki. Yesterday the Rarawa brought about a hundred passengers from Onelmnga, and on her return last night the steamer carried about 120 travellers. The manager of the Northern Company states that splendid bookings have been made for the Rarawa's Christmas and New Year trips, and they already exceed those of last year. The Rarawa leaves here for Oneluuvga on Christmas Eve, and it is expected that she will he a full ship. For next week an alteration has been »ade in the vessel's running. She will arrive frmo Onekunga on Wednesday morning, instead of Tuesday, and will return on Wednesday evening, making the return trip hs usual en Friday.

On the trains the number of travellers is increasing daily. The excursion fares are somewhat dearer this year, but this does not appear to have affected the holiday traffic. From the inland towns of Taranaki visitors are already coining to New Plymouth, and there Is every indication that there will be a large influx from the country. The hotels and boardinghouses report highly-sntisrni-toiy bookings, while the demand for iinn-cs—-especially dwellings near the senside— is unsatisfied. In addition to visitors who will spend all the holidays here, large crowds are expected in town for the races next week, while the picnics at (he seaside at New Year should also attract many people. Accommodation is being scur.hf at the Mountain House from all purls of the Dominion.
