The Government statistician estimates the wheat crop at 1,734,018 acres, producing 23,190,521 bushels, an increase of 9,'359,171 over, the previous record; oats, 103,199 acres and 1,786.454 bushels; barley, 11,089 acres and 216,818 bushels. REBATE OF WHEAT DUTY. Sydney, December 19. Mr. Hall has obtained a rebate of the Customs duty on the 100,000 bushels of wheat which New Zealand returned in place of that loaned in January last. The Customs duties, which amounted to £2200, have been imposed since tne loan was made. QUEENSLAND STATE COAL-MINES. Brisbane, December 20. The Government recently was negotiating for the purchase of the Blackheath and Aberdare coal mines for State purposes. It is now stated that it has purchased the Box Flat and Parkhead properties in the same district. The price is between £75,000 and £IOO,OOO. DROUGHT PRICES. Sydney, December 20. The Herald, comparing the cost of food at this and last Christmas, says that 40 per cent, of groceries are 20 per cent, dearer; bacon and ham are 2d and 3d and cheese 4d dearer; butter lias advanced 37s per cwt. and potatoes £5 per ton,
