Wheat.—Quiet and easier, owing to a bearish tendency due to the American Government report on the final yield. Flour. —Firm at full rates. Oats.—Quiet; La Plata NovemberDecember 29s Gd. Peas and beans.—Firm and unchanged. Wool.—Excited market for all sorts at the highest prices of the series. Awarua, top price 21d, average 20d. At Bradford there was fair inquiry; C 4's, 43d; super 60's, 42d; common GO'S, 41d; 515's, 37d; 50's, 32|d; 46's, 28d; 40's, 26d.

Butter.—Weak; the high prices are checking the retail demand. Danish 100s to 170s; New Zealand 155s to 158s. Cheese. —Firm, with good demand. New Zealand 91s. AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES. Melbourne, Dec. 18. At the Geelong wool sales, there was the keenest competition and prices were •Id and IJd higher than at the closest the November sales. Greasy merino brought 243 d. TAKANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, December 14, at my sale of the above produce, I catalogued 128 bales and 105 sacks of wool, 1400 sheepskins, 10 casks and 16 tins tallow, 330 Jiides, and 1540 calfskins, to a representative attendance of buyers. Wool was eagerly competed for and all classes advanced from Jd to 3d per lb. > The bulk of the offering was well-grown and showed very little seed. Fleece in Backs made'lSd to 14d, with the exception of a few small lots of inferior, which ruled at slightly lower rates. Sheepskins were firm at late rates, faulty and short woolled advancing in price. Tallow advanced £1 per ton. Hides.—No ox offering. Cow advanced }d per lb. I quote:—

At Westfleld Yards last Thursday, store and dairy stock were penned in full numbers and sold at improved rates. Best dairy cows and heifers £8 15s to £l2 ss, others £5 5s to £7; empty cows, £5 5s to £8 4s; aged and inferior cows, £1 15s to £4 ss; bulls, £4 10s to £9. At Warkworth, on Friday, we had a large yarding, and prices were the same as late sales. Two and a-half to 3-year steers sold at from £7 to £9 17s (id: IS-month to two year steers, £5 to £G 15s; yearling steers, £3 Is .to £4 17s; empty eows and heifers. £5 to £7 ss: yearling to IS months heifers, £2 17s to £3 19s; bulls, £5 to £lO 15s. Beef (tnd mutton at Westfield rates.

At Pukekohe, on Monday, dairy stock ivas penned in small numbers, and sold at late rates. Best dairy cows and heifers. £7 10s to £ll 15s, others £5 to £f> 17s fid; aged and inferior cows, £1 5s to £3 10s.

. On Tuesday, fat and store cattle were penned in mure than advertised numbers. Bidding was inclined to drag, but prices were the same as late rates. Grown steers, in forward condition, £]J to £l3 10s; 2 to 3-year steers, £7 5s to £lO 15s, yearling to 18-months £1 10s to i'(! 17s (id; empty cows and heifers, £5 12s (id to £8 7s Cd; aged and inferior cows, £1 10s to £4 las; yearling to 18-month heifers, £2 15s to' £4 12s lid; calves, 18s to £2 ss; bulls, £0 to J-fS las. Beef, in large numbers, sold at Westfield rates.

At Westfield. on Wednesday, we had (he largest yarding of beef we have had since selling in these yards. Most of the cattle were of excellent quality. Owing to the freezing buyers being unable to obtain space at the works, with few exceptions, prices were from 15s to £1 per head lower. Oxen sold at £2 5s per 1001b; cows and heifers, £1 13s to £2 2s (id; steers sold at from £6 10s to £lB 15s. Calves were penned in very large numbers, and declined in prices. Runners sold at from £4 17s 6d to £7 12s 6d; heavy suckers £2 15s to £3 ss, medium £1 15s to £2 ss, light 17s to 30s; small and fresh-dropped, 3s to 10s. Pigs were penned in large numbers and sold at. fully last week's rates. Heavy baconers, £4 3s to £4 17s fid; medium, £3 10s to £4 Is; light, £3 Is to £3 9s; heavy porkers, £3 5s to £3 12s; medium, C2 8s to £3 4s; light, £1 18s to £2 (13; weaners, 12s to £1 2s; slips, £1 3s to •£1 lis. Sheep were penned in full numbers and again declined in prices Best wethers sold at from £1 4s 3d to £1 8s; others, £1 2s to £1 4s; ewes, first quality, £1 3s fid to £1 5s M; others, £1 Is to £1 2s 9d; hoggets, 18s 6d to '£l 3s Od.
