DISTRICT NEWS.

KAPONGA. (Prom Our Own Correspondent). The annual meeting of the South Taranaki agricultural class (Kaponga centre) was held in the school on Friday evening, when there was a fair muster of members. The election of officer.; was left over for a future meeting. An interesting and instructive address was given by Mr. Browne, agricultural instructor, on present crops. Members speak very highly of the benefits received through belonging to this class, and strongly appeal to those farmers who have not joined to do so, as they will certainly be the gainers. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Kaponga Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., was held in the lodge room on Monday evening, YV.G. 'Bio. Bertie presiding over a good attendance. One new member was initiated, and officers for the coming halfyear were also nominated.

The sale of work and Christmas tree in aid of St. Mark's Church was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon and evening. It was well attended and good business was done, a good sum being raised. The following pupils passed their proficiency examination at the local school: —Ernest Foster, Herbert Fawcett, Robert Lyall. Horace Phillips, Arthur Sparks, Ruby Signal and Lulu Gapper. As there were only seven candidates, and all passed, it certainly reflects great credit on the headmaster, Mr. Lyall. The school broke up for the Christmas holidays on Thursday. There were no prizes given this year, the children by a unanimous vote handing the monev collected, £5 10s, over to the Belgian Fund, This was purely the children's wish, as they had not in any way been influenced.
