SEEMED PROBABLE.
A young business man, who had been married but a short time, was greeted by hia wife one evening, just before dinner with the joyful announcement that she had that very afternoon received her diploma from tlio cooking school at which she had ben an assiduous student for some time. . ''And I've prepared the whole dinner to-night!" she added, gaily. When they were seated at the table, and the young man was endeavoring to masticate a particularly tough piece of one of the new dishes, his wife suddenly said: "I took special pains with the dish yo'u are eating. Guess what it is!" ''Well, 1 really don't know," lie re-, plied, uncertainly. ''ls it the diploma?" WONDERFUL VERACITY. It was a Scotch convivial gathering, and everyone had contributed to tlie- entertainment save a certain medico. "Come, some, doctor." said the chairman, but the doctor protested. "My voice resembles the sound caused by the act of rubbing a brick along the panels of a door." The company attributed this to the doctor's modesty. "Very well," said he. finally: "If you can stand it, I am willing." There Wits a painful silence as the doctor sat down, broken at length by the voice of a flraw Scot at the end of the table.
