BAYLY MEMORIAL SPORTS.
(From Our Own Correspondent. The sports in connection with the Bayly-Memorial Scholarship were decided in Victoria Park, Stratford, yesterday. The weather conditions were windy, which prevented fast times being made, Out of 30 entrants, only 11 competitors toed the mark. Messrs Thomas and E. P. Webster acted as time-keepers; Mr. R. Masters as starter; while Messrs Bowler, Heron, ami H. M. (food were the judges.
The following were the competitors:— •I. M. f«'\iild, C. R. Kyndon, R. li. Pope, G. P. Webster, ,1. Clemow, 0. McHardy (New Plymouth High School); J. Chamberlain, R. J. Thomas, H. Tristram (Stratford School), J. W. Dawbin, and A. H. McGuinness (Mangatoki School). IUO Yards. First heat. —Thomas and Pope, dead-heat, 1, Guild 3. Also started:' Clemow, Daubin. Thomas, Pope and Guild gained standard time, 134 sec. 2nd Heat—McHardy ], Chamberlain 2, Webster, Tristram, and Kyndon also started and all got standard time, Final—McHardy 1, Chamberlain 2, Webster 3. Time 13sec.
Punt Kicking (standard 35yds).—Kyndon, 33vds 2ft, 1, Pope, 31yds Ift 7in, 2, Guild, 29yds 2ft, 3. The high wind prevented good kicking. Thomas ricked Jus leg and was prevented from taking part in any further events.
440 Yards (standard 70sec)). —McHardy 1, Chamberlain 2, Tristram 3. Time (iasec. Ten started.
Long dump (standard l?ft).—Tristram, 13ft lOin, 1, G. P. Webster,- 13ft Tin, 2, C. L. Kyndon, 13ft 4in, 3. Guild, Pope, McHardy, McGuinness also competed, and also beat the standard.
Drop Kick (standard 40yds).—Pope, 33yds, 1, Webster, 29yds 2in, 2, Clemow, 28yds, 3.
Place Kicking, from three angles.— Webster, 40pts, 1, Clemow and McGuinness, 27-Jptii, dead-heat, 2, Guild, Kyn-_ don and Chamberlain, 20pts each, 3. High .Jump (standard 3ft 9in).—Webster, 4ft 2Jin, 1, Kyndon, 4ft ljin, 2, Tristram, 4ft Oiin, 3. Invitation Race, 440 Yards.—Coutts (Stratford), 1, Bruce (New Plymouth, 2. Four started. Won by six inches. Time, 54sec.
POINTS TOTALS. G. L. Webster 105, Kyndon 1321, O. McHardy 120, Tristram 112J, Chamberlain 80, Pope 70, McGuinness Guild 65, Clemow 524.
It is regretted that South Taranaki did not send more competitors, but with the re-adjustment of the Taranaki Education boundaries this part will, no doubt he better represented in future contests.
