TARANAKI NOW WANTS TWENTYSIX. FOUR' LEAVE TO-HAY. ■PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE MOVING. Iu reply to the urgent appeal for 30 infantrymen from Taraimki .by next Thursday, six men enlisted yesterday—four at New Plymouth and two *t Hawera. Pour of these men passed the doctor and will leave for Trentlum by tne mail train this morning. Tai'auaki still wants twenty-six fit men, and six days remain for the recruits to come forward. The men who enlisted at New Plymouth and passed the doctor are: James' Travers, Ok a to; W. J. Beirfield, New Plymouth. The two Hawera recruits passed the doctor, but their names are not available. The other two men wh» registered at New Plymouth were respectively 43 and 47 years of age, and are both fathers of families. One is debarred from serving as lie is beyond the age limit, and the medical papers of the other have not yet been returned. "I am satisfied with this result for the first day, and I am optimistic that we will get the men allrlght," said Major J. McNaught (commanding the Taranaki district) last night. "The present month is an awkward one and there is no donbt that Christmas is a bug-bear." Major McNaught appeals again for the assistance of patriotic committees in Taranaki to assist him in getting the required number. He suggests that a committee consisting of - about twenty gentlemen should be divided into two sections, and each section should canvass half its town, waiting on employers, and ma king a personal appeal to secure eligible sum. He further suggests that theee.grotlemen meet employees during the hinck hour and appeal to them to com forward.

The necessity for action by the New Plymouth Patriotic Committee iras mentioned to Mr. C.
