MORE MEN WANTED.

AN URGENT APPEAL.

THIRTY MEN FROM TARANAS/^

WANTED BY DECEMBER 28rd,

The following important statement was communicated to us last night by Major 3. McNaught, commander of Group £ (Taranaki) Military District:-* "I am called upon by district headquarters to make public as quickly as possible the fact that very strenuous efforts must be made to obtain thirty men for infantry, between now and the 23rd inst., in the Taranaki district. While such men should go into camp before the 23rd inst, they will be given leave from camp on the Saturday and Sunday at Christmas, and on the Saturday and Sunday at New Year. I am! specially requested to make use of the recruiting offices and patriotic Vom* mittees throughout my group. Similar instructions for additional men to go into camp before the 23rd inst. hate been issued to group command*** throughout the Wellington military district, owing to the fact that the Wei* lington district is 300 men short for the infantry for the Eleventh Reinforcements.

"On behalf of the Defence Depart' ment I should be deeply grateful for your kind co-operation and hearty Bupport to receive the men required in this district. Men are wanted to coma forward singly or in small lots by the 23rd and not later. This means thai tlw fresh men will be required to b» enlisted and then medically, examined. Recruiting offices and patriotic committees enlisting such men are specially requested to return the men's registra-< tion cards and medical papers by the; first post to the Group Commander* Hawera, or to the No. 2 Area Officer, New Plymouth, according to which office is nearest to their place of residence. This appeal is urgent and momentous, and I hope I can rely upon your in* fluence to secure the men required from, this district."
