THE THEMIS. A belated overseas arrival at Wellington on Sunday was the large Norwegian steamer Themis, which came from New York via Colon and Durban. The vessel left the American port on September 12 for Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, nnd was i.O have taken the Panama Canal route. On reaching the canal it was found that the waterway was closed to all traffic in consequence of the big landslides which had completely blocked the Cnlebra Cut. The Themis remained at an anchorage for fourteen days, and then returned through the canal to the Atlantic, and proceeded on her voyage by the Cape of Good Hope route. A call was made at Durban to replenish her coal supply. Altogether nearly four months have elapsed since the Themis took the loading berth at New Zealand. The time occupied usually by this class of steamer from New York to New Zealand by the Panama v. anal route is from thirty-five to forty days. In consequence of the long detour the Themis was forced to make, the passage occupied eighty-eight 1 days. She is a fine type of cargocarrier, and previous to the outbreak of the war was engaged in carrying ore from United States ports to Copenhagen under charter to a German firm. She belongs to the same company as the steamer Belbridge, which was severely damaged by gun-fire by a German submarine several months ago. The Themis brought 13,000 tons of cargo, which includes 4(1,000 cases of oil, motor-cars, pianos, agricultural machinery, etc. She will discharge 3300 tons at Wellington, and the balance at Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. *
