The Board members have been waiting for some time to see'what further steps the Audit Department would take in regard to the surcharges demanded by the Auditor-General, regarding the travelling expanses of members. The Crown Prosecutor, at New Plymouth, wrote informing! the Board that he was taking proceedings to receive £8 14s Id paid by the Board to certain of its members for the use of their own conveyances in attending the Board's meetings! Those who were members of the Board at the time the money was voted were being surcharged. He asked them for the name of the solicitor who would accept service on their behalf, as by doing this it would save mileage. The Board went into committee, and on resuming no report was given to the press, but it is understood the Board intend to fight the case.
