GERMANY
REPORT OF A NEUTRAL TEUTONIC OPTIMISM. Times and Sydney Sun Services. London, Dec, 12. A pro-Ally Swede who has retursed from a month's visit to Germany says that Berlin has little changed. French and English extreme views of the German shortage of food and sufferings are unfounded. The impression throughout Germany and Austria is that the war will be finished in two or three mouths. When Serbia has been finished, Constantinople will be within reach, und there would be a rapid advance on Egypt by the liglTt railways which are being constructed. There would perhaps be a further blow, hut the calls of the war would be over. The Entente would probably succumb singly, England last. Everywhere there is a different opinion of England, Before the war the army was treated as a joke, but it is being gradually recognised that Tommy is a man of amazing determination and fighting quality. The French surprised the Germans who expected a repetition of 1870. There is a great dearth of fat. The highest authorities believe they cannot continue the war more thssi a.year unless there are new supplies. Paraffin oil is almost unobtainable, and is distributed by tiie police in honioeps.thic doses. The copper supplies have not yet been called up, but there is a terrible shortage of rubber. Tin? potato iharvest is abundant. English people should understand that the German regulations are largely precautionary. Tlu- general view is that food tickets are clearly a check on waste, and they cause no resentment.
PAN-GERMAN' PAPER SUSPENDED. Amsterdam, Dec. 12. The authorities in Berlin have prohibited the publication of the iPanGerman Conservative newspaper Post for publishing articles opposing any form of peace unless Germany keeps all the territory she has occupied. i [
