DISTRICT NEWS.

WAREA, (From a Correspondent). Mr. R. B. Barnett, who is giving a scries of concerts for tlie benefit of his music pupils on the coast, was favoured with an exceptionally fine evening for the Warea entertainment. There was a good audience and the carefully arranged programme was carried out smoothly. • Pianoforte items were rendered by the following: Misses Doris Hale, Thelma Clothier, K. and F. Corbett, Lilly Clarke, Nora Raukerc, Mary Duggan, Mr. R. Barriball and Master Murray Clarke, all of whom acquitted themselves creditably, particularly the children. M. Horace Larking's violin solos found favor with the audience, and he received a well-deserved encore. Individual vocal contributions given by Mrs. Street, Mrs Vincent, Mrs. L. Andrews, Alias Thelma Clothier, Aliss Auld and Rev. C. Addenbrooke were all much appreciated, the two latter being enthusiastically recalled. Airs. Vincent also delighted (lie house witli one of her humorous recitations, which was vigorously applauded and encored. Air. Barnett said that the object of the concerts was to encourage and help the pupils, and although this was the first concert of the kind held he hoped it would not be the last, as he fully intended to organise others later, when a more varied and advanced programme would be submitted. At' the instance of Rev. C. Addenbrooke, a vote of thanks was accorded to Air. Barnett and the performers. The last item by the Glee Club was followed with the singing of the National Anthem, after which supper was handed round by Mr. Barnett's pupils. A dance ended a most enjoyable evening, Mr. R. Julian making a capable M.C., while the music was supplied by Air. Barnett aided by several of his pupils. The door takings are toibe handed into one of the Patriotic Funds,

LEPPERTON. (From a Correspondent). On Saturday evening a large number of Lepperton settlers met at the residence of Mr. E. Lownsborough to bid farewell to Mr. Alex Wright, an old Lepperton boy, prior to his departure for the training camp, his services having been accepted for the front. Mr. C. Munro occupied the chair. Mr. K W. Whcatley, in a very feeling and filling speech, proposed the liea Ith of the departing guest, presenting him with a suitable memento as a slight token of the high regard in which he was held in the district. The toast was enthusiastically honored. Messrs (■. Munro, B. Eustace, A. Hoskin and others spoke in approbation of the good qualities of the guest, whose loss will be keenly felt. A recitation by Mr. B, Eustace following, after "which the guest made a feeling and appropriate speech. Mr. I''. Lownsborough then gave a funny little anecdote fairly bringing down the huse. The programme continued as follows:—Song, Mr. E. W. Whcatley; Toast, "Boys at the Front," Mr. C. Munro; recitation, Mr. R. Gilmore; song, Mr. Baker; gramophone selections; recitation, Mr. A. Wright; recitation,. Mr, Baker. The function was brought to a close with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne/'
