The week's wool sales closed strong at the best rates of the season. % WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. A DROP IN PRICES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. At the wool sale about 23,500 bales were offered. The demand for America was comparatively slack, and prices for finer wools were fully a penny to threefarthings down. Bradford wools were a penny better than last November. The position of prices caused some little surprise, A feature of the sale was the large quantity of wool passed in, showing that growers had an opinion of values, which the market did not sustain The wool sold for .patriotic purposes brought £774, and £llß was subscribed in the room for the Mayor's Christmas Dinner to Soldiers' Fund. I NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Friday, the 3rd inßt., at my Waiwakaiho yards, notwithstanding a small advertised entry, I had a full yarding of all classes, with a representative attendance of .buyers. Bidding was brisk throughout, a very successful sale resulting. Prices obtained were: Yearling heifers £2 Is to £2 10s, 15 to 18-month heifers £2 15s to £3 13s and £'* for small lots showing quality, whilst two pens of 15 and 18-months exceptionally well-grown Jersey heifers yarded by Mr J. S .Conunett made the nice price at hammer of £5 per head. These were a particularly fine line of heifers and reflected much credit upon the vendor. Good 15-month steel's from £3 19s Od to £4 13s 6d, fair £3 9s to £3 17s, small yearlings £2 3s to £2 17s, small 2-year empty heifers (rough) £4 0s 8d to £4 ss, 2%-year steers, £8 10s fid and £7, dairy balls (young), up to £8 15s, boners from £7 to £ll, according to condition, fat heifers £7 lis to £8 Bs, fat cows £9 10s to £lO 15s, forward cows £7 2s 8d to £8 12s, good store cows £5 17s to £8 18s 6d, small cows £4 10s to £5 7s, good spririging heifers £7 5s and £7 7s 6d, small £4 to £5 12s, dairy cows £8 5s to £9. At Douglas on Monday the 6th inst., I had a full yarding with a representative attendance of buyers. Brisk competition was maintained right throughout the day, a record sale for the yards being made, 15-montli heifers made from £2 15s to £3 Bs, smaller £2 to £2 9s, 15month steers £3 19s to £4 Bs, smaller £8 to £3 12s 6d, weedy £2 to £2 12s Bd, 2 and 2%-year empty heifers £4 10a to £5 8s 6d; springing heifers exceptionally choice £ll and £ll ss, good £6 10s to £B, 2-year steers £5 to £7 14s, bulls £4 to £0 7s 6d, fat cows £9 to £lO, forward cows £.7 Is to £8 18s, store cows £5 19s to £8 18s, smaller £4 ts to £5 Bs, empty ewes £l.os Id, fat wethers (woolly) £1 Ms. At Stratford on Tuesday the 7th inst., there was a full yarding of cattle with a good attendance of buyers from all parts. , AUCKLAND MARKETS. WEEKLY REPORT. • The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: At Westfield yards last Thursday store and dairy stock were penned in average numbers. Best dairy cows and heifers sold at from £8 10s to £ll 17s 6d; others £5 5s to £7 15s; empty cows £5 17s fid to £8 Ifc; aged and inferior cows £2 10s to £4 10s; bulls, £5 to £9; hoggets, £1 Os 3d. On Monday at Papakura, dairy cattle were penned in small numbers and sold at high rates. Best dairy cows and heifers, £8 15s to £l4 10s; others, £5 10s to £7 15a; aged and inferior cows, £2 to £4 ss; bulls, £8 Cs to £l4 14s. On Tuesday, we had a record yarding for the time of the year, 2357 head being penned. The market was a little easier in tone and with few exceptions the yards were cleared by auction or privately afterwards. Grown steers sold at from £ll 5s to £l2 17s 6d, no extra big cattle yarded; 2 to 3-year steers, £7 17s 6d to £lO 17s fid; yearlings to 18months steers, £3 17s 8d to £8; empty cows and heifers, £5 10s to £8 2a 8d; yearling to 18-month heifers, £2 ISs to £5 ss; calves, £1 3s to £2 10s; bulls, £6. to £l4 10s. At Westfield yards fat stock sale beef was yarded in extra 'large numbers, and w«s of excellent quality throughout. The demand was good, although the market was inclined to be a little easier. Oxen sold to £2 'Bs per 1001b; cows and heifers, £1 15s to £2 ss; steers sold at from £ll 10s to £2l 15s; cows, £8 53 to £ls. Calves were penned in large numbers, and sold at improved rates. Runners sold at from £6 12s 6d to £8 7s fid; heavy suckers, £4 to £4 17s Bd, medium £2 Is to £3 7s 6d, light £1 m to £1 17s; small and fresh dropped, 4s to 18s Sheep werfe yarded in average numbers, and showed no improvement in prices. Best wethers sold at from £1 0s to £1 Bs, others £1 1b to £1 4s fld. Ewes, 18s fid to £1 3s fid; hoggets, £1 to £1 3s. Lambs, best £1 to £1 2s 3d, others 17s 6d to 19s 3d. Pigs were penned in small numbers and allowed a small improvement in prices. ADDINGTON MARKET, Christchurch, December 8. At Addington to-day, there were smaller offerings of fat stock. Sheep and lambs were firmer, but beef w%s easier. Fat lambs recovered several shillings per head in consequence of short supply. Fat sheep showed little change. Store sheep—lnferior 2-tooth wethers 7s lid to 9s 6d, fairly good 2-tooth wethers 5s 9d to lis fld, inferior 2-tooth ewes 8s lOd to 12s Id, good 2-tooth ewes 14s to 17s 4d, good forward 4 and 8tooth wethers 19s 3d to 21s, aged dry ewes 7s, dry 4-tooth eyes 17s fid, failing mouth ewes and lambs 13s 6d (all counted) merino ewes 14s. Fat lambs—Best 20s to 23s 3d, lighter 15s 9d to 19s 6d.
