THE GREENWOOD CASE. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, Dec. 10. At the adjourned inquest on Greenwood and Miss Williams, who were found dead in bed on October 22, the verdict was that poison was administered by Greenwood with the intention of murdering himself and Williams. QUEENSLAND MEAT SUPPLIES. Brisbane, Dec. 10. A proclamation has been issued extending the operations of the Sugar Acquisition Act to authorise the acquisition also of meat now and hereafter coming within the State. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Brisbane, Dec. 10. The Bill for the abolition of the Legislative Council received short shrift when it reached the Council. The latter by 28 votes to 3 carried an amendment disagreeing wjth the principle and decided to forward the resolution to the King. SAVINGS BANK RETURNS. Sydney, Dec. 10. The annual report of the Government Savings Bank shows that the total deposits are £33,530,257, an increase of £1,440,000. After deducting deposits' 'interest, and cost of maintenance a margin of 4s lOd per cent, remains, SYDNEY BREAD MONOPOLY. Sydney, Dec. 10. A general meeting" of employers has entered a strong protest against the State bread monopoly, asking that before the scheme is adopted the Government appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the commercial and financial aspects. The Bread Monopoly Bill has passed tho first reading. AN ELECTION TIE. Sydney, Doc. 10. In the election for Lord Mayor, Aldermen Hogan and R. Meagher were the only two candidates, and there was a dead lieat. The meeting was adjourned for a week in order to obtain legal opinion on the position. • Prior to the election the council, on Mr. Gunber's motion, decided to reduce the Lord Mayor's allowance from £ISOO to £IOOO. AN UNPLEASANT PROBLEM. Sydney, Dec. 10. In the Assembly, Mr. Elmslie complained of the inadequate provision for dealing with venereal diseases in the Health Department estimates. lie said false delicacy hampered all attempts to cope with the disease. The Minister of Health said the money earmarked for the purpose shocked liim by its insignificance. The Chief Health Officer reports that patients were shunned. The difficulty was to make the disease reportable.' The preparation known as 606 was not the specific it w»3 supposed to be. He proposed to deal with the matter in an amending Health Bill shortly,
