Mrs. D. W. .Tack, Mayoress of Whangarei, was a visitor to New Plymouth yesterday, having arrived by the Rarawa from Auckland.
The engagement is announced of Miss Kathleen Winfield, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Winfield, Frankley Road, to Mr. Eric Shaw, son of Mr. Stanley Shaw.

Last Thursday the Associates of the New Plymouth branch of the Girls' Friendly Society arranged a most enjoyable garden party at Miss Percy-Smith's charming residence, "Matai-Moana." As the day was endowed With ideal weather, croquet and tennis were indulged in, and afternoon tea was served under the trees.
Mrs. Hirst entertained a number of friends at bridge last Wednesday, and Miss Wood was the recipient of the first prize Amongst those present were:— Mesdames Simpson, Burgess, Dodgshun, Wilson, anil Misses Wood, Hamerton (2) and Tidy. '
