ON THE SEA.
OIL STEAMER SUNK. NO SURVIVORS. Rome, Dec. 9. The Standard oil tank steamer Communipaw, with 15,000 tons of oil, bound from Genoa to Alexandria, has been sunk near Tobruk iby a submarine. A search for survivors was fruitless. THREE STEAMERS SUNK. Received Dec. 10, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 9. Lloyds report that the British steamers Veria and Helsouir, and the steamer Goulaidris have been sunk, FRENCH SUBMARINE LOST. London, Dec. 9. The Admiralty states that the French submarine Fre&nel was attacked when aground. The Austrians alleged that a big sailer had been sunk, but it was a »hip of only thirty tons. AMERICAN VESSELS SEARCHED. Washington, Dec. 9. A French cruiser stopped two American steamers, the Coamo and Carolina, off Porto Rico. They seized four German firemen and searched the cargo. It is understood that the United States will not protest.
