EMPIRE PICTURE*. "Her Husband's Honor,'' a Kalem two-part drama, was produced at the Empire Picture Theatre for tlie first time last night. It is one of the most interesting films seen at this theatre for some considerable time. The plot is well sustained, and the acting and stage setting are good. The story concerns the doings of a woman who is in league with an international gang' of 'smugglers operating between New York and the Continent of Europe. Her husband is a Customs officer, whose duty is to detect these crimes. Although the woman is devoted to her husband the fascination of pearls grips her. It is known that these precious stones are being smuggled into the country, and it is her hn-baiid's duty to find out who the culprits are. He fails. His wife is suspected by the chief customs officer, and he makes it his business to search her luggage and elfef/ts as she steps off the mail steamer from New York. He also is unsuccessful in his quest. It happens, however, that the husband of the woman, seeing some chocolates on her dressing table, takes one. He in surprised to find that they contain a h.".rd white substance. After investigating he discovers that they are filled with pearls, and incidentally he discovers the secret of the smugglers. Dramatic events follow which have to be seen to, he appreciated. The Keystone Company are. represented by a laughter-maker, "Those Bitter Sweets"—a particularly good comedy. The new dazette is well worth seeing. .Many stirring pictures of the "Chicago Excursion Disaster" can be seen in the special topical film. ''The Understudy,'' featuring Maurice Castello. a Yitagraph drama, and "Just Retribution," a Lubin drama, complete the bill.
