It has been remarked by many person* who should know better that Tnranaki I soil is not very suitable for the pro- ! duction of potatoes, and thp.t only two | or three of the ordinary hardy varieties had any chance of reaching maturity here. That this is a fallacy farmers and others Interested may see for themselves to-morrow at Messrs Webster Bros' nuc tion rooms in Devon Street, where can he sivn one of the finest collections of 'potatoes if is possible toiimagine. There arc nineteen varieties on view, and the tuber were all grown by Mr. L. U. Webster at his resident e. Mr. Webster makes a hobby of potato-culture, and, as is well known, has been immensely successful. What he particularly wishes to emphasise on growers is the right kind of seed to use, ami the manner in which the tuber should be treated in Taranaki soil. The'collect ion comprised Robin Adair (n Miperb lot),' White Elepliant, Coronation, Chapman, Vitality, Mayfield, Rlossoni. Queen Mary, Sutton'* May Queen, Maori Chief, Irish Queen, King Edward, Sutton's Acquislton, gamekeeper, Irish Red, Cold Coin, Up-to< Date, Sutton's No. 20. Sutton's Abundance, and La Royal (a perfect white ney, potato).
