Speaking of it in a letter to his parents in Auckland. Corporal Bassett savs: "She is an Italian bout, but this is her first vovage as an hospital ship. Slip is beautifully litted up, everything white and dean. Her crow, doctors and orderlies are all—with the exception or a low H.A.M.C. men—ltalians. As two or three of the heads are the only ones aboard who speak English, tilings arc pretty awkward sometimes. However, we are getting better treatment than we have had for some time. The food is excellent, lint. of course. Italian, and some of the fellows are not used to it, and are not satisfied. But it will do me all my life—or till I get home again, anyway." "1 cannot speak too highly of the way we arc heiny treated by these Italians," writes Corporal Jiassctt a few days later. "They are a line lot of people. They are clean, smart, and llighly intelligent, their doctor- and cooks are excellent," and it is plain that their main object is to do evcrvthing in their power to please the English troops in their charge, and sec that they land at Home as fit as possible." After leavino-Gibraltar the Rcgina d'ltalian passed another Italian ship full of Italian reservists from America, who heartily cheered the wounded British soldiers. TO BE DREADED.
