WAITARA.
NORTH TARANAKI PATRIGTIQ LEAGUE. (Prom Our Own Correspondent). Waitara, Yesterday. The üßual weekly meeting of the League was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, his Worship the Mayor presiding. The Defence Office, Hawera, forwarded a list of the names of men leaving to join the Eleventh Reinforcements, and the matter of obtaining presents for the men was left in the hands of a subcommittee.
Mr. Foreman, Tikorangi, forwarded a cheque for £lll Is lOd, being the amount collected for the Belgian Fund. It was decided to forward the money as soon as possible. The secretary of the Military Hospital Guild, Wellington, wrote thanking the Tikorangi Branch for their contribution of 17 pyjama suits for the Hospital Ship. The Guild also wroTe advising the League that they had now amalgamated with the British Red Cross Society, and were holding a conference in Wellington.
Mr. Eennie handed in a balance-sheet allowing a credit of £24 lis 3d, being the amount derived from the Convent School Concert, and paid into the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. It was resolved that a letter be sent to the Sisters and pupils of the Convent School, thanking them for their efforts on behalf of the fund.
It was stated that Mr. Tweedie, of Awakino, was calling a meeting at Awakino to form a committee and act in conjunction with the League. It was resolved that the chairman be empowered to Sign rules of the Taranaki War Belief Association on the League's behalf. It was decided to hold the Carnival in the last week in February, and to ask the sub-branches to consider the question of the Carnival Queen election and to report by the 20th instant.
The following "boys" leaving next Monday to join the Eleventh Reinforcements are to be tendered a farewell social in the Clifton Hall next Friday evening:—J. Clubb (Waitara), G. Sisly (Waitara), R. H. E. Goodwin (Waitara), E. C. Chapman (Waitara), J. Lowe (Waitara), T. J. McEldowney (Ngatimiro), J. A. McEldowney (Ngatimiro), A. W, Wright (Lepperton). The Red Cross Market held last Saturday was well patronised, the sum of £32 4s 3d being the nett proceeds. The stone crusher belonging to the Clifton County Council was partially destroyed by fire last Sunday morning, the 'woodwork being burnt away, It ia believed that a spark from the engine was the cause of the fire,
