STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Dec. 4. ■Mr, F. Ra'nford, of Ranford Bros., the well-known Jersey breeders, met with a painful accident yesterday. He was taking the halter off a Jersey bull that had just returned from the show, when the animal charged and gored Mr. HanJord severely iu the arm, necessitating several stitches. Five or six of the gentry who travel round the shows with the ball and pin game were ordered to desist by tho police, hence there was a deputation to 'the president and secretary for a refund of the money paid for space. One who was deputed to speak started oil' by complimenting the show officials on the excellent show, and how the show had got the name of doing the right thing to people ' who patronised it, but to no purpose; ,the officials would not refund, and then compliments were anything 'but nice, and at last the deputation filed out of the office vowing vengeance on every show official, especially the ground steward. Some weeks ago Messrs Robinson and Son missed a roll of linoleum from their premises in Broadway. Since then the police have had the matter in hand, and last night they arrested a young man named Andrew Naismith. The accused was charged at the Court this morning, and remanded till Friday next. There are rumors that some fresh developments may . arise. A seaside excursion to New Plymouth in February next is being arranged by the Toko, Douglas, Huiroa-, Huikama, Pohokura, and Whangamomona schools. Preliminaries were fised up on show day, and a meeting is to be held shortly to complete arrangements. Some Stratford folk felt annoyed at the action of the New Plymouth people in holding a fete on Thursday last (people's day at the show). They point out that Stratford has on' every occar tion assisted New Plymouth in the matter of closing, or preventing the and even shut up the town in order to and even shut up the town in order to assist the New Plymouth show, and they felt that .New Plymouth might have selected another date to hold their function on. Yesterday Mr. T. C. Fookes, at the invitation of Mr. W. G. ICenrick, S.M., uneviled in the Court a portrait of the late Lieutenant-Colonel Malone. There was a very large attendance of the legal fraternity. Lieut. Gray, in charge of the local Defence Office, has received instructions to proceed to headquarters. Lieutenant Crutch, of the New Plymouth office, will attend at the local office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday.?, and recruits may also enlist with Mr. W. P. Kirkwood (hon. recruiting officer).
