PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
WELLINGTON QUEEN CARNIVAL UNPLEASANT RUMORS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The following statement was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs to-day: "There has been some discussion in the press of Wellington lately regarding patriotic funds, especially about moneys arising out of the carnival in connection with certain carnival queen committees which have not been paid over. The matter has been brought before the Minister of Internal Affairs in his capacity as administrator of the War'Funfls Act of last session. An application was recently made, at first --verbally, and subsequently by letter, to the secretary of a carnival committee for the names of the officers, and especially the treasurers, of the carnival committees, which have not yet accounted to the central committee. U|> to tliis morning no reply has been received, and the Minister and his Department are taking steps to discuss with his collengues in the Government what steps shall be taken for the purpose of insisting upon the immediate accounting of moneys to the Wellington Patriotic Committee of funds received by these carnival queen committees."
