There lias been a remarkable volte face on the part of the War Office in regard to lady doctors (says an Australian writer). When the war broke out a Sydney lady graduate of some nte, Dr. Elsie Dalyell, holding the Biet fellowship, and studying at the Lister Institute, was one of the first lo volunteer for service in tlie field, and was promptly turned down. They had, however, in acknowledgement of her position, the grace to recommend her to the Serbian Legation, who gladly secured her services for the treatment of typliua especially, and also other diseases, aa well as the wounded soldiers. The hospital was under the control of Lady Paget. Dr. .Dalyell set out with a unit of 4(1 altogether, including nurses, orderlies, etc., and after live weeks reached her destination, Royal Hospital, .Skopje, Serbia. There she found • Herself with two others—three doctors in all, and four nurses—in charge of 500 patients, which you will admit, was rather a big order. After some strenuous work for six months (purely honorary, by-the-bye), she writes to say that the disease is practically stamped out. Dr. Dalyell writes to say that her last confrere, Dr. Bellingham Smith, lias left, and she has been for six months now in sole charge, but the cases are few, and she is leaving, if possible, for Alexandria or the Dardanelles.
