A LOAN SCHEME. By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright Sydnev, Nov. 29. New South Wales has decided not to adopt the Commonwealth co-operative loan scheme. The position of the other States is not affected. QUEENSLAND WHEAT CROP FAILS. Sydney, Nov. 29. The Queensland wheat crop is a failure, and the State is obtaining three million bushels from New South Wales. STRIKE 01? FIREMEN. Melbourne, Nov. 29. Sailed, Westralia, for New Zealand. The vessel was delayed until Sunday, the firemen striking for increased wages. Ultimately they accepted the ruling rates. Tlie Westralia is carrying an English mail.
THE PACIFIC CAIBLK. Sydney, Nov. 29. The Pacific Cable Board's receipts for the year ending March 31 were £293,947 and expenses .-£ 14,"i.21i1. This is the first time a prolit has been recorded. The annuity payments amounted to £88,(101, leaving £7915 to he made up by the Imperial and Dominion Governments. ANTI-SHOUTING BILL DEFEATED. Perth, Nov. 29. A conference of Hie Assembly Council decided that hotel hours be from nine to nine. Tin- unli-slioiitiiig Hill was defeated on the Speaker's casting vote.
