tired badly over the last furlong, and The Summit and Roumania were left to chase Mystified home. Glacier must be proving an expensive noddy to race. Lil' Arthur Oliver tried'to steal the Maiden on Glorify, and the chestnut gelding's army of backers were shaking hands with themselves right up to the last hundred yards. Then Glorify got the stitch, and Ohiivia and Need left him standing. Ohiwia is a three-year-old filly by Elysian—Wairakau, and she was capably handled by L. Xodder. Combustion has been threatening to win a race for some time, and his turn camp in the Roumai Welter. Black Lupin, who was favorite, at once dashed to the front, and as quickly faded to the rear. Zeus and Epworth shared the pleasure of setting a torrid pace to the turn, and then gracefully retired. The scene then changed, Combustion, Lady Laddo and Tangiwai coming through. The run home saw positions remain the same. Sea Lord, Tavistock, and Coropet monopolised the betting in the Gorge Hack Handicap, but the favorites did not share in the dividend. Tavistock led practically all the way, but Trials and Pomeroy challenged at the distance, and the trio, passed the box almost in line. The judge's placing was: Trials, Pomeroy and Tavistock—heads apart. The acceptances received for to-day's events at Takapuna are very satisfactory. Tyson, Rewi Poto and Ngapoto appear to be nicely treated in their engagements, and should run prominently, (lallupin. Mossinan, Gluetanus, Lady Elysian and Lady Penury may not want for backers in other events.
