TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Concluding day at Takapuna. Feilding races on Tuesday and Wednesday. Blackall and Balboa are Auckland Cup favorites. Glucian paid nearly a score in the Maiden at Takapuna. Taranaki horses all gained placemoney at Takapuna, and should do better to-dav.

A trio of notorious "second-placers"— Mos6man. Gallupin, and Centenary—finished in the same old position on Wednesday. It is not often that Tyson begins slowly, but he got away badly in the Borough Handicap, and King Lupin just beat him.

After a spell of about five years the Ashhurst Racing Club had a successful meeting on Wednesday. Fine weather, a large attendance and brisk speculation were the main features of an enjoyaWe gathering.. The close proximity of the Feilding meeting, and the fear of 101b penalties probably accounted for much inavtiatic horsemanship at Ashhurst. Chief Stipe MeMahon had a busy, day, but nothing more than a severe caution was handed out to the lads.

White Plume finished strongly a length behind Rexer in the Hack Hurdles, and it looked as 'if the Wanganni horse was kept too far out in the early stages to have a chance with the winner. The rider of White Plume was able to convince the stipe that everything was in order.

Jem was knocked all over the track in the Ashhurst Cup, and after the race there were inquests for everybody. From the evidence it appeared that Carmont (who won on His Eminence) crossed Jem. and he was cautioned. A. Lodder was also before "his nibs" to explain hia handling of Sicily in the same race. R. Reed, rider of Bunting, stated that his mount ran all over the course, and was repsonsible for Sicily bumping him. Lodder was reprimanded, and told not to do it again. Then the next race came on.

The public made no mistake wlien they sent Lady MUldleton out at a very short price for the Pohangina Handicap. Avon Park, Black Lupin and Powder Pox were withdrawn, eight going to the post. Hushabye, Bootle, and Tangiwai made the early running, but when Bell called on the favorite she quickly smothered the opposition. Lady Middleton is in great form at present, and should win many more races for Messrs Walsh and Quartermain. The easiest win of the day was that of Martlet in the Flying Handicap. The daughter of Martcllo, who was a strong favorite, dashed off in front and soon placed a whole panoramic view between herself and her ten opponents. Sea Lord and Jean Laddo put in good runs in the straight, but the leader was. so far ahead that it looked like part of the previous face. Square Deal dropped out of the Ashhurst Cup, and Maniaroa, .Tern And His Eminence were best backed of tlie eight runners. From a good start Sicily and Bunting set out to make the p.ice. the others being bundled. Along the back Bunting was in charge, followed hy Sicily. Maniaroa and Jem. At the home bend His Eminence drew up, and Jem was smacked right back. His Eminence had to be ridden out to win by just under a length from Bunting, with Sicily close up third, and Wild Lupin and Maniaroa next. Florist was the only one to drop out of the Welter, thirteen sporting silk. Glacier was favorite, but Mystified broke the Taranaki horse up by the solid pace sht lit from tin word "aa," Glacier
