WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Kov. 28. The 5.3. Tainui arrived here yesterday from Tarakohe with 100 tons cement from the Golden Bafc Cement works for Messrs J. Master and Son, Stratford. A concert is to be given by the ladies of Lepperton in the Lepperton Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 30, under the auspices of the North Taranaki Patriotic League, and, judging by the. excellent programme which is being prepared, should meet with a full house.
There was a good attendance at the concert held in St. John's Hall last evening in aid of the funds of the band, but certainly not as large as the programme merited. Although, since the previous concert given, the band has lost nine of its members, the majority of whom have gone to the front, the items rendered last evening were very creditable, and greatly appreciated by the audience. The concert opened with a selection by tho band ("Golden Cross") and was followed with songs by Mr. Hooker ("There's a Land"), Miss Maude Peart ("Birds of Love Divine"), Mr. Asher ("The Grey North.Sea"), Mr. J. Campbell ("They Sang God Save the King"), an euphonium solo ("The Message") by Bandmaster Hughes, and a recitation •("Lasea") by Mr. Goldsworthy. The second half opened with "The Battle March of Delhi," by the Band, Mr. Asher (song), duet from "Maritana" by Bandmaster Hughes and Bandsman W. Skelton, Miss Maude Peart (song), Mr. Hooker (song), Mr. G. Goldsworth (recita, tion), Mr. J. Campbell (song). Nearly item was deservedly encored, and Mr. Campbell's "Roamin' in the Gloamin' " had to.be repeated again and again. "Tho Empire" by the Band concluded a most enjoyable programme.
