LIVING WAGE SCHEME BREAKiS DOWN. By Cable.—Preßs Association —Copyright Sydney, Nov. '22. Mr. Justice Heydon has issued a statement regarding the alarming situation created by the rapid decrease in the purchasing power of the sovereign as affecting the living wage judgment of February, 1914, in which it was directed that wages should fluctuate according to the purchasing power of the sovereign, which then stood at 23s Cd, and is now at 28s Id, increasing the living wage from 48s to 03s, Mr. Justice Heydon decided that the resultant increase in the cost of living cannot be met by Increased wage 3, and the obligations of the Wages Boards under the clause must be suspended. He has referred the matter to the Government. SAMOAN NATIVES REPATRIATED. Sydney. Nov. 23. Years ago a number of Samoan natives were exiled to Saipan Island for opposition to the German Annexation of Samoa. Following the Japanese capture of Saipan. the natives have been repatriated aHd are now on their'way to Sydney cn route for Samoa.
