AMUSEMENTS.
THE EMPIRE THEATRE. A big crowd witnessed the all-star programme presented by the management of the Empire Theatre last night. Six feature films and the latest edition of the Caumont Graphic combined to provide capital entertainment for patrons. The famous Yitagraph Company supply two items of the seven. One of these is a brilliant comedy, entitled "War," which raises hearty laughter from start to finish. Tlie action of the story takes place in America, where there are many nations represented, most of them being directly connected with the titanic European struggle. A French family and a German family are 011 distinctly war-like terms. Hie last straw is added to the parents' hate when the son and daughter of the respective families fall in love and marry. Eventually the marriage of the children makes the parents forget there is such a thing as war. The other Vitagraph subject is a drama, which is calculated to make a strong appeal wherever .screened It is called ''The Quality of.Mercy," and is full of dramatic happenings. The Edison Company, which has a happy knack of presenting everyday styles of life in most attractive picture form, is represented on the bill by an amusing newspaper comedy. "It May be Von." There is a moral behind it all, but 1 hi> sinrv u one to make people laugh and feel happy Hi quite another type i> the Mibin Company'-- production. "The Cornet." Here is a pathetic drama, with a strong human note. The story relates how the playing of a cornet was the means of separating husband and wife, but. curiously enough, reconciliation was effected bv the same means. "Mabel Lost and Won" is an amusing farce-eoinedy by the Keystone Company, It is well worth its place on the programme. A new programme featurins "Sunshine and Shadow" is announced for to-morrow
