A casualty list received yesterday eo»» tains the name of Lieut. V. Crawshaw, of Stratford, who has been admitted to the 3rd London General Hospital. Mr. E. F. Duthie has resigned his position as employers' representative on the Arbitration Court, as from January 31st. —Press Association. Mr. T. Kururangi has, says the Star, been appointed acting-clerk of the Native Land Court at present sitting under Judge Jack at Normanby It is understood that this sitting will conclude the consolidating of matters connected with the West Coast Settlement Reserves. Mr. P, W. Platts, barrister and solicitor, has been appointed to succeed Mr. H. W. Northeroft as Resident Commissioner at the Cook Islands. He will leave for Rarotonga at the end of next month. Mr. Platts, who is a well-known professional man in Port Chalmers, was Mayor of that borough from 1909 till 1912. Mr. Albert Booth, a member of a family closely identified with the early history of Oamaru and North Otago, is dead, aged 71. Among his sons are Ser-geant-Major and Private R. Booth (both of whom are with the Expeditionary Force). Private J. Booth, who was killed at the Dardanelles, was another of his sons. Dr. Macky, senior resident surgeon at the Waikato Hopital, who has received an appointment with the Expeditionary Forces, has resigned. Dr. Pinfold, junior : house surgeon, has been appointed to [ succeed him, and Dr. Currie, a Dunedin University student, has been appointed junior surgeon. Sisters Swayne, Ready, and Kenny have also notified the Hospital Bpard that they have been accepted for duty at the front, and will shortly bo resigning. The marriage of Lance-Corporal Alexander Grant, Ist New Zealand Contingent, to Miss Ruth Rosewcll, of Shepperton, was solemnised last month at Shepperton Church in the presence of a large number of the bridegroom's regimental comrades, 6ays the London Daily News. The story of his engagement is quite a romantic one. He was wounded in the jaw and throat during the brilliant charge at (>aba Tepe. Early in Angu-t he arrived at the New Zealnnders' Hospital at Walton-on-Thnmes. and had latterly betfi recuperating While there lie met the young lady who has now become his wife. The best man at the wedding was Private Smith, who has for several years been Corporal Grant's chum. Smith was also wounded in the famous charge, his right arm being slialieri-d. Mr. L, A. Bone has been re-elected 1 president of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce.
