CONDITIONS SATISFACTORY. t DESPITE GERMAN INTRIGUE. , London, Nov. 21. In the House of Commons, Mr. Chamberlain, in reply to a question, said that in Northern India, where attempts had been made by a member ot au antiBritish Association, with headquarters in the United States, to disturb the peace, tamper with the troops, and upset the Government, the active loyalty of the people had been shown by their resistance and voluntary offers of aid. The general conditions were substantially satisfactory. The difficulties had arisen from movements outside India, and were the efforts of a small group of extremists who did not reflect the sentiments of the mass of tlie people. The Government had the situation well n; hand.
Washington, Nov. 21. Indian advices report the execution of twenty-four Hindus, and that twentyseven others are getting life sentences. This is only one of many similar affairs. The charges are ibased on anarchy, mutiny, and insubordination. The native press condemns the activities of the disaffected elements, which, in some quarters, are attributed to German machinations.
The general tendency is to credit the agitation to the work of conspirators located on the Pacific Slope in America, who for years have been engaged in Secret propaganda. The conspirators dispatched emissaries to India to stir up antagonism to British rule the Punjaub and Bengal. From June till September seventeen Indian cavalrymen have been sentenced to death for mutiny, bomb-making, u/id cutting telegraph lines. Altogether 71 have received sentences of imprison»«at,
