POSITION AT NEW PLYMOUTH. FAKM HANDS AND CARPENTERS WANTED. Labor conditions in New Plymouth have been very satisfactory from the workers' point of view during the past few weeks. There is very little unemployment, while skilled workers in almost every branch of trade are in keen demand. There is an unsatisfied demand for farm hands, for work with n ilking machines, but several farm laborers \iiio have applied for employment cypress a preference for some other kind of farm duty. Carpenters arc particularly diilicult to obtain, and ilie few that seek employment are soon placed. Yisterday the Department of Labor at New Plymouth received a request for carpenters from Fcatherston, where they are wanted for construction work at the military camp. A returned soldier, now in Neve Plymouth, who is a carpenter by trade, lias accepted work at l'eathirston, but he is the only carpenter which can be sent from this district.

The returns dealing with the applications for employment at New Plymouth during the past few weeks show that ill the first week in October there were 110 applicants for work, while ill the second week seven of eight applicants were placed, the oilier applicant being one of four laborers who were seeking work. In the third week two of four farm hands were sent to work, but no place could be found for a coachbuilder. In the hist week in October two laborers and a navvy sought employment, which was not awaiting them, this making seven men who could not secure work .luring October.

During the first week in November one butter-maker and a teamster apoliid for employment, but could not be placed. There were four applicants in the second week—a bushfeller, a kltchenmaid, a laborer, and a stonemason—and none of tlicm could be placed. For the week ending last Saturday there were no applications. The number of unemployed for Nqvember is, therefore, Si#.
