THE DARDANELLES.
UKNKIUL MACKENSEN AX CALLIPOI. Some, Nov. 19. It is stated that, anticipating Lord Kitchener's mission, the Kaiser has directed General von Maekensen to hurry to Gallipoli to direct the German and Turkish forces. General von Mackensen arrived in Constantinople on Sunday and left on Tuesday. Other reports state that the Kaiser is personally directing the operations against the Serbians and Anglo-French. WILL THE PENINSULA BE ABANDONED. London, Nov. 19. The Manchester Guardian doubts whether the Government will decide in favor of evacuation of the Dardanelles. Possibly some portions of the positions may be abandoned, 'but the Guardian does not believe we shall voluntarily release our entire hold on the Peninsula.

The Newcastle recruiting depot, which was closed on account of the smallpox outbreak, has been reopened.
