N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.

The monthly meeting of the Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union was held at Hawera on Thursday. There were present: Messrs Dunn (presi dent), Maxwell, Orr, Lambie, Mills, Washer, Barrow, Swmdlehurst, and Sim (secretary). Correspondence was received from the New Zfealand Fertilisers Company in reference to placing shares of the company and taking a stall at A. and 11.l 1 . ihows. It was resolved that as Mr. Boddie, who was to interview the ineetiug, had been unalble to visit Hawera, the matter foe left over until next meeting. The Auckland Provincial Executive forwarded the following resolution:— "That it is the opinion of the executive that the time has arrived when the Dominion Executive should appoint a competent man to watch closely proposed legislation which may affect the farming industry." The president: I take it that is what the Advisory Board is doing now, and the executive is doing the same >. thing. He moved: "That this executive is : n sympathy with the object of the Auckland executive in the recommendation to appoint a competent man to look after legislation concerning fanners." Mr. Lambie seconded the motion, which, after a short discussion, was earned. The secretary was instructed to send out subscription lists to all the branches for the wounded soldiers' relief fund, and th'e president was appointed to represent the executive on the Taranaki War Relief Fund Executive. It was reported that limestone was to be found on Mr. LooneyV property at Opunake, and the feeling of the executive was that it would be a good thing if this could be worked in the interests of the farmers in the district It was decided to communicate with Mr. Looney upon the subject, asking if ho would object to an officer of the Agricultural Department inspecting the material, and giving a report as to the quality and quantity available.—Star.
