THE TRAMS.

TOLL not BUN TILL NEW YEAR. It Ws hoped that the trams would commence running at New Plymouth about the middle of next month, and tlmt the system would be fully operating duiing the Christmas holidays, but it 1b now unlikely that the system will be Inaugurated till after the New Year. The <*ause of this is the delay of material at Home, essential portions ot which will not arrive until late in December, while the ilnal shipment will not n*acn New Zealand till early in January. Tie consulting engineer had hoped to Arrange for the manufacture in New Zealand of sufficient machinery to ♦*ah!o part of the service to be weridng by Christmas, but it bag now been tonnd that this cannot be dem. It may, therefore, be the middle of January or lata* before the trams are running.
