PROFESSOR VON ZEDLITZ.

VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL IN DEFENCE. By Telegraph.— Presa Association. Wellington, Nov. 17. The von Zedlitz ease was again before the Victoria College Council to-night. The chairman (Mr. Watson) presented a very long printed document which, he said, outlined the Council's side of the case. It had been prepared by ten members of the Council and printed for wide distribution. Mr. Ferguson said that a number of members had intended resigning and offering themselves for election. This would then seem to be an expression of opinion from their electorates as to whether the Council was justified in declining to sacrifice an irmocent man to popular clamor. The Government, however, had prevented this possible action by the addition to the Education Act of an amendment enabling the Governor to suspend such election by filling the vacancies with its nominees. As members of the Council would thus be practically debarred from submitting their views and actions rfo their constituents for confirmation or condemnation, they deemed it desirable to place this statement on record. Dr. Prendergast Knight protested ; against the expenditure on this printing, ' and said the document did not appear to be a full and correct record of xhe happenings. The Council decided not to make a permanent appointment at present to the position vacated by Professor von Zedlitz, but to make temporary arrangements during the currency of the war.
