Files of the San Francisco Chronicle, to hand by the Ventura, contain a despatch dated Paris, September 28, giving details of the alleged wounding of the Prince of Wales. I The story is that the Prince was la!« ing tea in an inn at a British outpost near Yprcs the previous week. The at* tendant was an attractive young woman, passing as unmarried, but really; the wife of a French corporal in aj lliissar regiment, named Huguet. The woman had many admirers among the British stall' officers, and Huguet, becoming aware of the position, grew furiously jealous, though there wa» really no cause. He wrote to his wife, threatening her that if the reportß wer# true lie would shoot her and then himself. lie followed this by obtaining a davV leave, and unexpectedly returned home. He found the Prince of Wales and another st.ifl' oll'icer having tea in the inn. After watching his wife talking; to the two officers for some time, ha was seized with blind rage and rushed into the room and fired a couple of shots, one at his wife and the other at the staff officers. lie then turned the weapon on him* self, inflicting a wound in his neck. Tha Primv was wounded in the arm, juit above the wrist, and both Were taken to a field hospital in the Prince's cat and the wounds were dressed. The Prince of Wales reported the !m cident to the. Commander-in-Chief, whose despatch adds: "'The corporal is, under military law, liable to be shot, but prot)« ably no official notice will be taken ot the incident." \

The corporal's wife left the inn foft the hospital, where she is looking after; her husband. .
