PUBLISHED SERMONS.

To the Editor. .sir,—You have done me the justice to acknowledge that any sermons were not published in your paper by my own wish, but at your request. You will also remember that at the time of the request L demurred, for the very reason that I am not a master of sugary platitudes and deem it a waste of time to preach colorless discourses. Now, I merely wish to state that the reason why 1 cannot enter into a newspaper correspondence on the subject matter contained in my sermons is that I have neither the leisure nor the inclination. J respectfully decline to afford the public the modifying spectacle of two priests of different branches of the same church disputing over points of doctrine in the daily press. IJcan Power's sermon has been already published, in which he has very ably and eloquently set forth the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church on the subject of eternal punishment. You have rightly and properly given him perfectly fair play. Surely, then, lie lias no ean.se of complaint if 1 decline to pursue the subject further in the newspapers.—l am, etc., A. H. COLVILR New Plymouth, November 111.
