THE DARDANELLES
GENERAL HAMILTON. A SPIRITED DEFENCE. .Received Nov. 16, 9.55 p.m. London, Nov, 10. Mr. Tennant, speaking at Woodend, said the Dardanelles had generally .been extremely well looked after, although the number of wounded had exceeded anticipation and the shipping was insufficient. He hoped Sir lan Hamilton's despatch would soon bo published. There had been minors that General Hamilton had spent too much time on board ship' and not sufficient time ashore. His headquarters were 45 minutes' steam from Suvla, 40 minutes from Anzae, and 45 minute, from Helles. An officer intimately associated with General Hamilton had'said that no com-l.mander-in-chief in modem times was more with bis troops under fire than | was General Hamilton. There was not a single front liae of trench Jhat he [tad sot vifittd.
