SHOCKING ACCIDENT.
DEATH BY GELIGNITE. OAOXUI RESIDENT KILLEfI A sad accident occurred ufc Oaontu yesterday morning, resulting in the instantaneous death of a well-known resident, Mr. Thomas Vincent. It appears that Mr. Vincent, with a lad named Shirley, was preparing to go fishing, and it is said that he was inserting a cap into some gelignite for the purpose of obtaining herrings as bait, when an explosion took place and he received the full force of the discharge in his body, which was terribly mangled, while his right arm was also' blown off. The lad with him received a severe shoe!:, but fortunately escaped injury The police were, communicated with', and Dr. Barrow, of Opunakc, was soon on the scene, hut he could only pronounce life extinct. An inquest will probably be held to-day. Deceased, who was aged •27, leaves a widow and three young children, the youngest child being onlv a few davs old.
