SHIPPING BUFFETTED. SQUALLS IN THE .STRAITS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Last night's gale was responsible for some damage to the electric light and other wires, though no serious mishap is recorded. The gale continued this morning, accompanied by driving rain squalls, and shipping was accordingly disorganised so far as coastal service* were concerned. The Mararoa arrived two hours lata from Lyttelton, having been considerably buffeted about, and several times she was 6wept by huge seas. The Nikau was four hours late from Nelson, being held up in Cook Strait by huge head seas. Shortly after the vessel left Nelson yesterday she was in the centre of the electric storm. • -.
