WAITARA.

FAREWELL TO VOLUNTEERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Nov. 13. The social given in the Clifton Hall last evening as a farewell to the boys who are leaving here on Monday evening next to join the 10th Reinnforcements went with a swing from start to finish, and the committee's efforts to make the evening as bright and pleasant as possible met with full success. The Mayor spoke a few words of welcome to the returned troopers—Privates Soffe, Bicheno and Wilson—who were present, and this welcome was responded to by Private Bicheno and Mr. J. Soffe for his son. The Mayor presented Mr. M. Redmond with a gold band ring on behalf of the Fire Brigade. Vocal items were rendered by Mrs. Nosworthy (aong), Miss Vera'joll (song), Mr. C. Whyte (song), Mr, Weston (song), and Mr. Morgan (recitation). The music for the dance was suplied by Messrs. M. Feck (piano), and 0. Cole (violin), with extras by Misses Badley and Carr, Mrs. Eggleton, and Mr. P. Dewhirst. The dancing was kept going until midnight when the singing of the "National Anthem" and "Auld Lang Syne'' brought a very enjoyable function io a close. The proceeds, amounting to £9 12s u'd, will be handed to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.

Mr. C. E. Gaustad is adding considerably to his outbuildings to meet the requirements of his rapidly growing busi ness. There is no doubt that his business is a great convenience to the district, as farmers can now go to Waitara relying on getting their requirements for the farm and are not disappointed, as often happened when they had to depend upon the arrival of the boat or the vagaries of the railway. The latest additions are a benzine store, which will accommodate about 1,260 cases, and a manure and mixing store, 40ft. by ISft., capable of holding ample supplies of the famous Westfield fertilisers, basic slag, etc., which are the main manures used in the district.
