HURFORD ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Though a dark and atormy night, last Friday a very pleasant and successful basket social and gift auction was held in the local schoolroom in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Great credit is due to the ladies for the way in which they had got up their baskets, which numbered thirty-three. Practically all born' the Allies' colors, including one well got up basket representing the Red Cross, another bearing gallant little Belgium's colors, whilst a third was moulded with little cannons and guns. Mrs; Williams also deserves special credit for her well arranged military cake, surmounted by a model cruiser. Amongst the, many donations were fancy table-centres, cushions, and cakes, and, with the baskets, made a pleasing display which reflected igreat credit on all.
