FAVORABLE IMPRESSIONS.
NEW ZEALAXDERS' CONDUCT. ! TRIBUTES FROM EGYPT. "The impression New Zealanders left jon the Egyptians after six or eight '.months' residence there has been most most favorable," said Chaplain-Captain ■Bush King, who arrived back by the "Willochra. "English residents holding good positions in Egypt have counted it a pleasure to entertain our troops in their own homes, and one lady and gentleman who entertained over 3000 men in their home, which was open for our men every day in the week, said that there was not a single man whom ■they regretted having had in their ■house. The conduct of the New ZeaJanders had been most exemplary. Our jnen by their behaviour and general appearance made a most favorable impression, and surprise was commonly •expressed at the remarkably high educational standard to be found even among the men in the ranks. I had many opportunities of seeing our men under fire. They rendered themselves conspicuous by capturing positions almost impregnable, and then holding them in the face of most tremendous •odds." Captain Bush King was very frank in his statements regarding the feasibility of the Dardanelles operations. With all insistence on his limitations as a critic of military affairs, he expressed the opinion that it had been a mistake to work in a north-easterly direction, as had been done in order to get south. Instead of going south towards Maidos and the Narrows to cooperate with the Navy, we were forced by the Turks in a north-easterly direction
